Third Grade Weekly Update
Dear Parents,
Third grade has been preparing for conferences next week. Today, they reflected on their classroom work habits. It was interesting to see them grapple with analyzing how they behave in certain situations, such as participating in class and disturbing others. I reassured them that there were no wrong answers, but it was important to be honest with themselves so they could recognize areas for improvement. I look forward to discussing these reflections with you next week.
Some reminders: Students must attend the conferences with you, and progress reports will be sent home today. Please review their progress with them so they can celebrate successes and identify areas for growth.

- Tues – Friday – Oct 8-11 Noon Dismissal Days, Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences

Learning Overview
Unit 1: Math Posters
Our first field trip will be to the local Alameda Rhythmix Center to see a Sewam Native American Dance Performance. Since it is nearby, we will walk to the location and will not require drivers or chaperones. This field trip connects to our social studies standards, as we are studying the Native American use of resources in clothing and celebrations.
Take care, and have a great weekend!
Warmly,
Mrs. Costy

Third Grade Weekly Update
Dear Parents,
Our students are adjusting to third-grade routines and work habits. We’ve noticed some behavioral and noise-related issues, but we see great potential for growth. We’ll address these challenges constructively, initially guiding students with gentle reminders and sending notes home if needed. Please continue this conversation at home this weekend, emphasizing positive behaviors. Thank you for your support!
I have included some photos of students making the most of our flexible seating options while engaging in their ELA tasks. Similar to adults, children also appreciate the opportunity to work in various areas beyond their regular desks. We empower them to complete their assignments using small desks around the classroom, on a cozy couch, or at our standing table. Our students genuinely enjoy this freedom, and it fosters a sense of independence and responsibility among them.
Here are some dates to plan for:
- Friday, Sept 13- NO SCHOOL: No Student Day, No Share and Care, Professional Development Day
- Tuesday, Sept 17- Free dress for Sept B-days
- Saturday, Set 21- FUN FAIR
- Wednesday, Sept 25- Noon Dismissal / Professional Development Day
Please be sure to read the SPN Weekly Newsletter every Tuesday to keep up with school info and events!

Third Grade Weekly Update
Dear Parents,
I hope you are doing well! I’ve decided to change it up a bit this year and send my weekly updates on Thursday instead of Friday. My schedule has changed a little, and I now find myself with a better window of time on this day. So please keep a lookout for my emails on Thursday!
Students have settled in nicely, and we have started our regular assignment routines that will continue throughout the year. This week, we introduced “Your Turn Practice Pages,” which contain comprehension and vocabulary strategies. After a targeted lesson, students are asked to complete these pages to further practice the concepts before taking an assessment on Friday. As you can see in our Learning Overview, we are working on visualizing, character traits, synonyms, and fantasy genres. Students will be asked to complete them on Thursday night for homework if they are unable to finish throughout the week (they are distributed on Tuesday generally).
Here are some dates to plan for:
- Tuesday, Sept 10- Picture Day
- Friday, Sept 13- NO SCHOOL: No Student Day, No Share and Care, Professional Development Day
- Tuesday, Sept 17- Free dress for Sept B-days
- Saturday, Set 21- FUN FAIR
- Wednesday, Sept 25- Noon Dismissal / Professional Development Day
Please be sure to read the SPN Weekly Newsletter every Tuesday to keep up with school info and events!
Have a great weekend!

Lastly, thanks to our classroom supply budget and your generous donations of wipes and tissues (thank you!!), we are well prepared for the beginning of our school year. However, if you would like to start earning your volunteer hours (20 hours are required per family) and directly contribute to the classroom, you can purchase items from our 3rd Grade Wish List. These items are used as incentives for a weekly raffle of tickets that students can earn for following classroom procedures and completing their best work. Please submit receipts to the front office. Final Weekly Update
Dear Parents,
Thank you for such a wonderful third-grade year! It’s always bittersweet because, like I told them today, “I don’t want to let you go, but I don’t want to hold you back.”
They are so ready for fourth grade; the books and bridge engineering were a testament to that. I’m sure many of them came home proud of their work, and if they haven’t gotten around to it….ask them! I’m sure they’d love to share. I’ve included some end-of-the-year photos for you to enjoy.
Have a great summer!!
Warmly,
Mrs. Costy
